Laurel Lakes Trail


Laurel Lakes Road 28E201 south of Sherwin Creek Road near Mammoth Lakes has severe wash outs. The public is asked to refrain driving on the road.

Follow the four wheel drive road that ascends the east bank of Laurel Creek. Dispersed camping at Laurel Lake does not require a wilderness permit. The hiking trail leaves the rough dirt road and enters the wilderness just above Laurel Lake. Climbing up the canyon, the trail continues southeast over a saddle and descends to Edith Lake and Lake Genevieve, where it meets the Convict Canyon trail.

General Information

Directions: Exit Hwy 395 to Mammoth Lakes on Hwy 203. From the Town of Mammoth Lakes, follow Old Mammoth Rd to Sherwin Creek dirt road. West of Sherwin Creek campground and picnic area a rough high clearance 4x4 road goes south to Laurel Lake. Most people hike the last section of the road.

Lake and Pond Fishing

Special fishing regulations in Laurel Lakes. Open year round. Minimum size limit is 14 inches total length. Only artificial lures with barbless hooks may be used. Bag limit 2 fish per day, 2 in possession.
