Longleaf Vista Interpretive Trail

The Longleaf Vista Recreation Area has a very exciting 1.5 mile interpretive trail that makes a loop through a wide variety of forest settings. From meadows, to bottomland hardwoods, to high mesas, to creeks, this short trail offers visitors enough to make them want to go around again when they're done.

General Information

Directions: From Interstate 49 take the Derry exit which is exit number 119. Take Louisiana Hwy 119 5.5 miles south to Forest Highway 59 (Longleaf Scenic Byway). Turn right (west) on FH 59 and travel 3 miles to the sign location. From the parking lot, follow the paved path to the gazebo on the point and the trail begins down the steps to the right. The loop ends up the steps near the restroom by the parking lot.

Activities

Day Hiking

Visitors to Longleaf Vista Recreation Area can enjoy panoramic views of the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness Area from various points and mesas located on the Interpretive Longleaf Vista Trail. Spur trails leave the main trail in two separate areas that lead to platforms on a large sandstone outcropping that allows visitors a 360 degree view of the Kisatchie Hills.
