The original Gem Peak Lookout was activated in 1921 as a "rag outfit" a pole platform tent near a 15' open platform tower. It was replaced in 1964 with the present tower. It cab of the lookout sits on a 30-foot tower and contains 225 square feet. The lookout is equipped with two singles beds & mattresses, table and chairs, bench, wood heating stove, firewood, bucket and cleaning gear. The lookout is not wired for electricity and has an outdoor toilet. There are no potable water sources available at the lookout; we do recommend bringing your own. This location has cell phone coverage. Due to tower height we discourage bringing children or pets. Firewood is supplied and stored at the base of the tower.

The lookout can be reserved 3 days in advance of your stay by contacting the Ranger Station or Contact the National Recreation Reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777 or www.recreation.gov, the cabin can be reserved 180 days in advance of your stay.
The cabin rents for $35.00 a night with a 14 day stay limit.
4 adult capacity. Pets are welcome, but must stay off the beds. Lighting of fireworks is not allowed on National Forest System Lands.

Directions: There are two routes availalbe to Gem Peak; 1. From Noxon, travel Pilgrim Creek road 149 for 13 miles, turn left onto road 2205. The lookout is 2 miles from this junction. 2. From Trout Creek, travel road 2229 for 11.5 miles. Turn left after the Marten Creek Bridge and follow road Marten Creek road 151 for approximately 11 miles to the junction with road 2213. The lookout is 2 miles from this junction.
