Savenac Cookhouse

The Savenac Cookhouse is one several rentals located at the Historic Savenac Tree Nursery. This historic tree nursery was founded in 1907 as a Forest Service tree nursery. Nursery operations concluded in 1969.

The Savenac compound includes a visitor center that is operated from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Located on the compound are memorials, and interpretive trails with plenty of room to roam.

Beautiful Savenac Creek runs through the compound. In winter, groomed snowmobile trails are available and opportunities abound for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

General Notes:

The Savenac Cookhouse has a commercial range with grill and double ovens, microwave oven, assorted cooking utensils and service for 25 to 30 people, commercial dish washer, 2 refrigerators plus walk-in cooler for larger groups, dining area that can seat 25 to 30 and sleeping facilities for 9 with 3 bathrooms and 2 showers. The sleeping facilities consist of 9 twin beds with mattress covers and are located in the basement. Two beds are in a separate room with the remaining beds located in a common group area. Visitors need to bring bedding. Lookout Pass ski hill is located 10 miles west on Interstate 90. The world class "Route of the Hiawatha" is located 7 miles to the west for pristine mountain biking. Numerous mountain streams, the St. Regis River, hiking trails and alpine lakes are available for recreational activities within just a few minutes of Savenac. Directions:

The Savenac compound is located 90 miles west of Missoula, Montana on Interstate 90. Take Haugan exit #16. Compound is well signed and entrance is visible.

Activities

Mountain Biking

The world class rail trail, "Route of the Hiawatha" is located at Taft exit #5 off Interstate 90. Other mountain biking opportunities are available in the area.

Road Cycling

Bike around the frontage roads and communities like DeBorgia two miles east.

Cabin Rentals

The CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) built this beautiful compound and its buildings. The intricate stonework, courtyard and architecture of the buildings make this place fun to rent and experience.
