Rock Creek Microburst Viewing Site


This is the site of a spectacular weather event. In 1989, a "microburst," or tornado-like windstorm ripped down hundreds of trees in this canyon. An interpretive sign explains this phenomenon.

General Information

Directions: 20 miles east of Missoula on Interstate 90, take Rock Creek exit #126 onto Rock Creek road. Drive 27 miles south on Rock Creek road. Travel slowly. Trailers, motorhomes and tow vehicles not recommended due to narrow and rough road.
