Canyon Mountain Trail #218
This trail offers excellent views of the John Day Valley. It also allows access to Canyon Mountain and the west end of the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness. The trail is compact dirt, with a 2200' elevation gain. Most of the trail is dry, but there are a few streams that cross the trail.

General Information
Directions:From John Day, OR., take US Highway 395 south for approximately 2 miles. Turn right onto County Road 52 (Marysville Road) in Canyon City, OR. Follow County Road 52 for approximately 2 miles, to the junction with County road 77. Follow County Road 77 for approximately 1/4 mile to the junction with Forest Road 7700333 and follow the road to the trailhead.
The road is not maintained by the Forest Service. Recommend 4X4 vehicles only during dry months of year. Stock trailers are not recommended on this road as they may become high centered.
Activities
Day Hiking
Visitors can enjoy a day of hiking along the 15.5 mile trail into the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness. Hikers can enjoy a longer hike by connecting to other trails such as Pine Creek Trail #201 to spend a day enjoying the wilderness.
Backpacking
Hikers can travel along the 15.5 mile trail connecting to other trails along the way such as the Pine Creek #201 allowing hikers to explore miles of trails throughout the wilderness.
Horse Riding
Stock trailers are not recommended on this road as they may become high centered. Riders can enjoy a nice ride through the wilderness, there are multiple streams that cross the trail causing the trail to become soft in places. Riders can connect to other trails such as the Pine Creek Trail #201 to create a longer ride. There are multiple areas in the wilderness for those wishing to disperse camp.
Viewing Wildlife
Visitors to the area have the opportunity to see a wide range of wildlife. Wildlife in the area range from big game animals such as Rocky Mountain Elk and mule deer to a variety of birds and smaller animals such as squirrels and chipmunks.
