Little Strawberry Trail

This trail leads to Little Strawberry Lake. The lake is a scenic subalpine lake situated beneath a scenic rock wall. Wild flowers are regularly abundant. Visitors to the area will see numerous bird species, elk, deer, and mountain goats can be seen traversing the rock cliffs near the lake. 

Follow the Strawberry Basin Trail #375 to the Little Strawberry Lake Trail cutoff.

General Information

Directions:

From the town of Prairie City, OR, turn onto South Main Street, follow to the junction with Bridge Street.  Turn left onto Bridge Street again, then turn right at the junction with Bridge Street again.  This road turns into County Road 60 after leaving city limits, follow County Road 60 approximately 8 miles the road then becomes Forest Service Road 6001, follow Forest Service Road 6001 approximately 2 miles to Strawberry Campground.  From the campground take Strawberry Basin Trail #375 to the Little Strawberry Lake Trail cutoff.


Activities

Day Hiking

This short trail gives access to Little Strawberry Lake, set amongst ponderosa pine trees this is a beautiful hike. This trail is a heavy use area. It is not recommended for holiday or weekend use. 

Viewing Wildlife

A wide variety of animals call the area home, ranging from big game animals like Rocky Mountain Elk, mule deer and mountain goats to a wide variety of birds including, owls, magpies, eagles and woodpeckers.  Smaller creatures such as a variety of squirrels and chipmunks are abundant in the area.

Viewing Plants

Visitors to the area can enjoy tall ponderosa pine trees, in late spring and through the summer wild flowers are abundant in the area.  A beautiful variety of plants can be found along the trail.

Viewing Scenery

The trail leads through timber but comes out at the beautiful subalpine lake situated beneath a scenic rock wall.  A great place to see fascinating geological formations.

Hiker stands in awe before Strawberry Falls during the spring melt. Large chunks of ice rest in the foreground, fallen from purches above on a large stone wall.
