South Hughes Group Campground


The South Hughes Campground is in beautiful Huntington Canyon, on a short spur just north of Highway 31.  Large spruce trees offer plentiful shade.  Grassy meadows and thick stands of aspens surround the site. Huntington Creek is just across the highway and the canyon area has numerous lakes and streams.  Popular activities include fishing, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, and scenic driving. The six-mile Left Fork of the Huntington National Recreation Trail, for hiking and horses, is nearby, as is the 10-mile Fish Creek Trail, for hiking, biking, and horses.

General Information


Directions from :  Highway 10 in Huntington, make a left turn onto Highway 31 at the northernmost intersection in Huntington City limits. Site is located about 26 miles west of Huntington, along Highway 31.

General Notes:

This campground has one reservable group site that can accommodate up to 100 people, with picnic tables, serving tables, a grill, dutch oven table and a fire ring with benches. An accessible vault toilet is provided, but there is no water, electricity, or garbage service. This is a "pack it in, pack it out" site and all trash must be removed upon departure. Grassy areas provide nice spots for tents. Beyond the group site are several individual walk-in tent sites that are available on a first come, first served basis. Parking is below the tent sites, and you must walk a short distance to reach them. These sites have a picnic table and fire ring.

River and Stream Fishing

Huntington Creek runs just south of Highway 31.  It is a Blue Ribbon Fishery and contains cutthroat, brown and rainbow trout.  It is a favorite of fishers, along with the Forks of the Huntington further east in the canyon and numerous lakes and streams.

Permit: A Uath Fishing License is required and can be obtained from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.
