Suiattle River Road - Forest Service Road 26

The Suiattle River Road is located northeast of Darrington and is a major route into the Glacier Peak Wilderness, accessing the Pacific Crest Trail and roughly 120 miles of hiking trails within the Suiattle River Watershed. The road provides scenic and pleasure driving and allows people to access areas to hunt, search for wild mushrooms, pick berries and gather other forest products. Tribal members use the road to reach areas and resources important for traditional cultural practices and exercise reserved Treaty rights.

Follow State Route 530 east and then north out of Darrington, turn right onto Forest Service road 26 after crossing the Sauk River.

Activities

Campground Camping

This campground offers a more primitive, quiet camping experience. Situated along Buck Creek in old growth forest, were every campsite can hear the rushing water. Activities in the area include fishing, hiking, and bicycle riding. This campground is mostly shaded by large old Douglas Fir trees. Relatively private sites and creek front sites are available. Popular with those seeking a quiet getaway an ideal base camp to access many area trails.

From Darrington, Washington travel north on SR 530 approx 7 miles to the Suiattle River Road (Forest Road 26).  Drive for approx 16 miles to the campground, located on the left/north side of the road.

A picnic table, tent pad and fire ring is available at each campsite. Garbage service is not available. Vault toilets. No drinking water available, so bring your own supplies. The campground is normally hosted from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. Otherwise an attendant will be visiting the campground two to four times daily. Some of the campsites in Buck Creek are available with reservations; others are available on a first served basis.

  • Large motor homes and trailers not recommended. Dogs on leash only.
  • Camping: 50% discount for single site camping with any of these passes: Interagency Senior, Interagency Access, Golden Age, or Golden Access pass.
  • Day use: No passes honored.
