Upper Suiattle River Trail 798.1
This unmaintained and heavily damaged trail within Glacier Peak Wilderness once extended from the Pacific Crest Trail 2000 to Chocolate Creek. Three other unmaintained and heavily damaged trails intercept this one. Many windfalls and flood damage from floods in 2003 and 2006 make for slow going.
The trail now begins at the Pacific Crest Trail at Vista Creek, where there is no longer a bridge. After crossing the creek hike about two miles to the Gamma Ridge Trail 791 (south). The main trail continues, dropping quickly to the Suiattle River, where it disappears. To proceed you must find a way to cross Dusty Creek, which can be difficult. Beyond this point there have been no reliable reports of trail conditions since the floods of 2003.
At approximately five miles you will find Dusty Creek Trail 786 (area is unavailable) on the right (south) and the Triad Creek Trail 792 on the left (north) that goes to Buck Creek Pass.
Access to Buck Creek Pass on the Triad Creek Trail requires crossing the Suiattle River, which can be hazardous because of slippery foot logs and high river flows. Reach Chocolate Creek after 6.5 miles. At the crossing of Chocolate Creek the trail ends. None of these trails have received maintenance since before the flood of 2003.
