Huckleberry Creek Trail 1182
This lesser known trail starts in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest and enters the northeast corner of the Mt. Rainier National Park to Sunrise Visitor Center. The trail is usually snow-free early in the season and traverses through a variety of landscapes: remnants of a moraine, meadows, boulder fields, tawny ridges, sub-alpine trees and old growth forest stands.
Start this hike in second growth timber after leaving FS road 7340. Cross Lost Creek on a foot log at mile .1 and enter old growth timber. Follow Huckleberry Creek to the boundary of Mt. Rainier National Park Boundary at mile .9. Here is a nice stopping point for families, or continue to hike into the national park to Lake James and Sunrise Visitor Center. As you enter Mt. Rainier National Park regulations prohibit horses, mountain bikes and motorized use.
