Pacific Crest Trail 2000 Chinook Pass


The trail is fairly level for 2.1 miles to Sheep Lake, where you will find beautiful subalpine country with lots of wild flowers in July and August. From Sheep Lake climb the trail for 1.2 miles to Sourdough Gap, elevation 6410 feet.

Descend 2.0 miles to Bear Gap and connect with Silver Creek Trail 1192 and Henskin Lake Trail 1193 to the west and trail 967 (Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest) to the east. From Bear Gap climb for 0.4 miles to Pickhandle Point. Continue on through Pickhandle Gap for .6 miles to the trail junction with trail 967A (Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest) to the east. Hike for 0.2 mile past the junction with trail 956 (Wenatchee National Forest) to the east.

Continue on the trail past Crown Point on the right and in 2.3 miles you will come to Scout Pass and the junction to Norse Peak View Trail 1191.1 to the west. After 0.9 mile you will pass Basin Lake Trail 987 (Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest) to the east. The trail ends at Big Crow Basin where you will find good horse feed and campsites.

From here you can turn on the Norse Peak Trail 1191 to the west or trail 953 (Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest) to the east. Find a shelter at 0.25 mile on trail 953.

General Information

Directions:

Drive east on State Highway 410 from Enumclaw 43.5 miles to Chinook Pass.

There is a parking lot 100 yards north of Chinook Pass with spaces for 20 vehicles.

There are vault toilets accessible to wheelchairs, horse ramps, hitch rails, and a footbridge over the highway.
