North Bend Picnic Area


Area Status: Open

Wooded picnic area with tables, grills, trash cans and two accessible vault toilets. Located adjacent to the North Fork Cherry River on State Route 39/55 eight miles East of Richwood, West Virginia.

Camping is available nearby at Summit Lake Campground.

  • Dogs are permitted if on a leash at all times. Leash must be 6 ft. or shorter. Food storage order applies to pet food also.

Dispersed Camping

Lake and Pond Fishing

Trout fishing is available nearby in Summit Lake. A valid West Virginia State Fishing License is required, along with a National Forest stamp,a Conservation stamp, and a trout stamp. Please contact the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources for more information on fishing and hunting licensing requirements.

River and Stream Fishing

Trout fishing is available in the adjacent North Fork Cherry River. A valid West Virginia State Fishing License is required, along with a National Forest stamp,a Conservation stamp, and a trout stamp. Nearby trails include:
• North Bend Trail, 2.4 miles in length
• Fork Mountain Trail #236, 20.9 miles in length. Fork Mountain Trail is accessed via North Bend Trail.
 

Backpacking

Fork Mountain Trail #236, 20.9 miles in length.

• Numerous backpacking opportunities exist along the Fork Mountain Trail which runs from just outside of Richwood to the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center intersecting several trails along the way.
 

Viewing Scenery

This picnic area is located along the Highland Scenic Highway.

This site offers a smaller area for family gatherings. Picnic tables and grills are dispersed throughout the wooded area.
