Eightmile Loop Trail #496
This loop trail is popular with mountain bikers and offers great views from the lookout tower near Fivemile Butte of Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier, and Mt. Hood.
From Eightmile Campground, follow this trail west through the campground over Eightmile Creek and head uphill (north) to Forest Road 4430. Cross Forest Road 4430 and continue east 0.15 mile to the loop intersection. To make a clockwise loop, continue straight (west) at the intersection and travel 1 mile to the bridge crossing Eightmile Creek. Continue another 1.5 miles and cross Forest Road 4400-120. Approximately 150 feet after crossing Forest Road 4400-120, the trail joins Bottle Prairie Trail #455 and Knebal Springs Trail #474 heading northwest. After traveling approximately 100 feet, this trail heads northeast (with Bottle Prairie #455). After 0.4 mile, the trail leaves Bottle Prairie #455 and continues northeast. Continue 1 mile to the intersection with Forest Road 4400-120. Cross the road and continue 0.65 mile to the spur trail for Fivemile Butte Lookout heading north. From the Fivemile Butte Lookout trail, continue east 0.35 mile to the intersection with Forest Road 4400-122. Cross the road and continue 1.2 miles descending several switchbacks to return to the loop intersection near Forest Road 4430. Turn left (east) to return to Eightmile Campground.

General Information
Directions:From Hood River, OR to the east end of the trail, take OR Hwy 35 south 26 miles, approximately 0.15 mile past milepost 71, to Dufur Mill Road (Forest Road 44). Turn left (east) on Forest Road 44 and go 10 miles to Forest Road 4430. Turn left (north) on 4430 and go 0.3 miles northwest to Eight Mile Campground (Forest Road 4430-150). Park at the trailhead in the day use area. The trail starts on the north side of 4430-150, approximately 0.2 miles past the turn into the campground. The trail leaves from the picnic area.
