Gumjuwac Trail #480
This trail can be accessed from Highway 35. The Badger Creek Wilderness boundary starts once you cross Forest Road 3550. The remaining 4.6 miles of trail are located in the Badger Creek Wilderness.
This moderate-difficulty trail passes through forests of old growth hemlock, fir and cedar on its way over Gumjuwac Saddle and down to Badger Creek. Numerous open glades and meadows are spotted along the upper reaches of the trail.
From the north, this trail starts at OR Hwy 35 and ends at its intersection with Badger Creek Trail #479. The trail climbs steadily up a series of switchbacks for the first 1.8 miles to a viewpoint. Continue 0.6 mile up the ridge to Gumjuwac Saddle. Bennett Pass Road (Forest Road 3550), Gunsight Trail #685 and Divide Trail #458 intersect the trail here. Cross Bennett Pass Road and continue downhill for the next 2.2 miles to Badger Creek Trail #479. Hikers can make a loop by turning right at the junction, taking the Badger Creek Trail #479 to its junction with the Divide Trail #458 above Badger Lake. Follow the Divide Trail #458 back to Gumjuwac Saddle. This loop is 3 miles longer than returning on the Gumjuwac Trail #480, but it is not as steep.
Sections of this trail are maintained thanks to the help of the 44 Trails Association.
