Area Status: Open
This is a more difficult trail. Scenery includes view of forested ridges, forested lowlands and many open areas with views across the drainage. The trail includes complex switchbacks around boulders, open hillsides, scree slopes, and steep drops. The trail changes quickly so be alert. The trail follows the Wild and Scenic Fifteenmile Creek and goes through pine and oak forests. This trail connects with Cedar Creek trail #457 to make a popular loop.
This trail begins at Eightmile Meadow and heads east to Fifteenmile Campground (4,600’) and ends at Road 4421. Head northeast from Fifteenmile Campground, following Fifteenmile Creek, and travel 0.5 mile to the junction with Cedar Creek Trail #457. From the junction, stay left and continue heading north-northeast for 5.1 miles on Fifteen Mile Trail #456 to the junction with Cedar Creek Trail #457. Continue east following Fifteenmile Creek for 3.3 miles to the end of this trail at Road 4421.
Trail maintenance is accomplished thanks to the help of the 44 Trails Association.
Loop: Visitors can choose a loop by turning right (south) on Cedar Creek Trail #457 at the second junction and following it 4.6 miles back to #456 near Fifteen Mile Campground.

At a Glance
From Hood River, OR take OR Hwy 35 south 26 miles, 0.15 mile past milepost 71, to Dufur Mill Road (Forest Road 44). Turn left (east) on Forest Road 44 and go 8 miles to Forest Road 4420. Turn right (south) and drive 2.1 miles on Forest Road 4420 to Forest Road 2730. Take the left fork and follow Forest Road 2730 for 2 miles to the Fifteen Mile Campground. The trail leaves from the campground.
From Dufur, OR go west on Dufur Mill Road and after 5.1 miles take the right fork to stay on Dufur Mill Road (Forest Road 44). Turn left (south) on Forest Road 4420 and follow the directions above.
