White Oak and Wood Chuck Trails

These short nature trails are located in the Float Camp Recreation Area and provide excellent opportunities for enjoying nature.

Woodchuck Trail is a ¼ mile trail that starts in the campground and connects to the White Oak Trail.

The White Oak trail is a 1.41 mile loop originating at Float Camp Picnic Area's parking lot. This trail is a loop, there are a number of tree identification signs along the trail that name some of the common tree species you’ll see in the Ozarks. It’s a fairly wide and relatively flat trail, there are a series of small rolling hills but no major changes in grade.

General Information

Directions:

From US Highway 160 in Doniphon, MO

  • Take Highway Y heading north for approximately 4 miles.
  • Turn left on FR 3210 and drive .25 to a fork in the road. Left fork takes you to the campground, right fork takes you to the day use.

Accessibility:

Water faucets and toilets are all accessible.

  • During temperate months, be prepared for biting insects, poison ivy and high temperatures.
  • Be aware of hunting seasons.

Activities

Day Hiking

Float Camp Picnic Area is located only 150 feet from the cool waters of the crystal clear Current River and nestled under a mature forest of hardwoods which offers plentiful shade. Visitors enjoy fishing or hiking on the Wood Chuck and White Oak Trails. A campground is only a half-mile away for those who want to stay longer than a day. Accessible vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided.
