Esmeralda Trailhead


Provides access to Esmerelda Basin Trail #1394 and Ingalls Way Trail #1390 which enters Alpine Lakes Wilderness.

NOTE: FS Road 9737 closed due to flood damage 1.2 miles south of Esmeralda Basin Trailhead at the Iron Peak Trailhead. Parking is limited, expect heavy use and the possiblility of no parking spaces available. Do not block turnaround area. Alternate parking at DeRoux Trailhead.

Fees $5/Vehicle/day or Northwest Forest Pass. Washington State Discover passes are not valid on National Forest lands.
Permit Info: Wilderness permits are required to enter Alpine Lakes Wilderness. The self-issuing permits are free and are available at trailheads.

General Information


From  Cle Elum, WA  follow Highway 903/W for 2 miles. Continue straight onto Highway 10/ 970 and follow for 6.5 miles. Turn left on Teanaway Road North Fork and follow for 13 miles. Then stay right on Forest Road 9737 and follow for about 9.6 miles to the Esmeralda trailhead.
