Esmeralda Trailhead

Provides access to Esmerelda Basin Trail #1394 and Ingalls Way Trail #1390 which enters Alpine Lakes Wilderness.

NOTE: Temporary repairs have been made to FS Road 9737. The trailhead can now be driven to by most vehicles. Those with extremely low clearance my have difficulty passing through the repaired area. 

The toilet at the trailhead is temporarily closed. A toilet is available 1.5 miles south at the DeRoux Trailhead.

Fees $5/Vehicle/day or Northwest Forest Pass. Washington State Discover passes are not valid on National Forest lands.
Permit Info: Wilderness permits are required to enter Alpine Lakes Wilderness. The self-issuing permits are free and are available at trailheads.

General Information


From  Cle Elum, WA  follow Highway 903/W for 2 miles. Continue straight onto Highway 10/ 970 and follow for 6.5 miles. Turn left on Teanaway Road North Fork and follow for 13 miles. Then stay right on Forest Road 9737 and follow for about 9.6 miles to the Esmeralda trailhead.
