Area Status: Closed
August 23, 2016 -- Campground is closed due to fire. The Buck Creek Fire, burning in the Glacier Peak Wilderness 20 miles northwest of Leavenworth, is now approximately 1,000 acres in size. Buck Creek Trail No. 1513, Chiwawa River Trail No. 1550, Phelps Creek Trail No. 1511 and Carne Mtn Trail No. 1508 are closed due to the fire. The Chiwawa River Road is closed just beyond Alpine Meadows Campground, about 2 miles from end of road. Contact Wenatchee River Ranger District at 509-548-2550 for fire information.

Located near the confluence of Phelps Creek and the Chiwawa River, about 23 miles from Fish Lake, there are 7 tent sites and 6 equestrian sites at this campground.

From Leavenworth, WA, head north on US-2 West for 15 miles. Then turn right on WA-207 North and go 4.4 miles. Go right on Chiwawa Loop Road and stay right at the intersection. Then take the second left onto Chiwawa River Road/Forest Road 6200 and follow it for about 22 miles. Road becomes gravel/dirt at 11 mile point. Continue another 12 miles to campground.
