This trail has moderate to steep grades climbing from the river valley up to Schaefer Lake within Glacier Peak Wilderness. Schaefer Lake sits in a pretty subalpine basin.
Alert! There is no bridge across the Chiwawa River; log jam crossing may be hazardous. This trail is not recommended for stock.

General Information
Directions:The trail begins at Schaefer Lake Trailhead. From Leavenworth, WA take US-2 north for 15 miles. Then take a right on WA-207 (Lake Wenatchee Highway) and follow for 4.4 miles. Go right on Chiwawa Loop Road travel .4 miles then stay right at the intersection. Then take the second left onto Chiwawa River Road (Forest Road #6200) and follow for 13.5 miles to the trailhead.
