Trail begins in Douglas fir and ponderosa pine forest and climbs north into Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness. It is steep for the first 3 miles; last 2 miles easier through forest and meadows to Slate Lake. Excellent views of the Twisp River drainage and rugged peaks of Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness. No water near the trail

General Information
Directions:From Twisp drive west about 17.5 miles on Twisp River Road (county road 9114), which becomes Forest Service Road 44, and into Forest Service Road 4440 when the road turns into a gravel road, look for road 4400-220 on the right and the trailhead.
