Horton Butte Trail #1250A

This trail within Lake Chelan- Sawtooth Wilderness is suitable for horses and hikers to Round Lake, and hikers beyond. The trail crosses Fish Creek (there is a foot log) and begins a series of 20 switchbacks to Round Lake. Water is unavailable for the next 4 miles. The trail continues switchbacking as it climbs towards Horton Butte, once the site of a Forest Service lookout.

No facilities are provided, however camping spots are available along most of the trail. Sections of the trail are faint due to low use and lack of heavy maintance. The trail is steep and difficult in some locations.

The scenery is spectacular past the 3 – mile point. Many view points over looking Lake Chelan, Lucerne, and Domke and into Emerald Park and Peak are available. The stream crossing at Fish Creek can be hazardous in the spring and summer during peak runoff. The trail Junctions with Indianhead Basin Trail #1250 leading into Surprise Lake and Summit Trail, which eventually loops back to Stehekin and Moore Point.
