Boulder-De Roux Trail #1392


The Boulder De Roux Trail begins at Forest Service Road 9737-120 and ends at Forest Service Road 4330-140.

Combine with Esmeralda Basin Trail #1394 for a well known loop day hike. Fine backpacking opportunities with camps in upper De Roux basin and Gallagher Head Lake.

Mountain biking: Very challenging and rocky trail, expect "hike-a-bike". Motorcycle: Very difficult motorbike trail riding with thin tread and exposure.

De Roux Campground is a horse camp with steel poles to attach highlines. Good opportunities up De Roux or De Roux Spur Trail #1392.1 into the upper Middle Fork Teanaway country.

Fees: $5/vehicle/day or Northwest Forest Pass, or Federal Interagency Recreation Pass required at the trailhead at De Roux Campground on the FS Road 9737-120. No Recreation Pass required on the Boulder side at the end of Road 4330-140.

General Information

Directions:

This trail has two trailheads located at its eastern and western ends.

EASTERN TRAILHEAD: approximately 8.5 miles east of Cle Elum, turn off Highway 970 onto the Teanaway Road and follow it 13 miles to the end of the pavement. Veer a right onto FS Road 9737 up the North Fork; then a left onto 9737-120 to De Roux Campground.

WESTERN TRAILHEAD: from Cle Elum or Roslyn, take Highway 903 north to Salmon La Sac and then right onto Fish Lake Road 4330. Follow 4330 about 7 miles and take a right onto spur road 138. Then turn right onto spur road 140. Follow it to its end and park there. A trailer cannot turn around in this small trailhead.


Parking:

From the east: park at the campground turnaround. Facilities include camping, a toilet, hitch rails, and picnic tables. From the west: there are no facilities.
