Chiwawa River Trail #1550
The Chiwawa River Trail #1550 will be closed from October 16, 2018 to June 1, 2019 to protect Bull Trout spawning habitat. Spawning Bull trout have redds (egg nests) in crossings that are easily destroyed by foot and stock traffic.
This trail with gentle grades starts from Buck Creek Trail #1513 and follows an old mining road, climbing steadily to high subalpine meadow country at the base of Red Mountain. It also accesses a spur trail leading to Chiwawa Basin within Glacier Peak Wilderness.
The trail is not maintained beyond the cut off to Chiwawa Basin.
