Activities
Day Hiking
Recreation areas with activity Day Hiking:The first half mile of the trail winds through a splendid old growth forest on a level bench. The rest of the trail is in heavy timber and rock slopes along the river passing through small stands of cedar and fir. Reach the Eureka Creek at 3.5 miles or 5.8 km, the old bridge is washed out.
Because this trail is mostly low elevation it makes a good early season hike, with many wildflowers. At the old bridge crossing site one can look up both the Lost River gorge and the Eureka Creek gorge. The big timber makes this a good place for bird watching, especially riparian birds.
Occasionally there are reports of rattlesnakes being seen along this trail. These creatures will normally try to avoid you and you should do your part by trying not to disturb them.
Backpacking
Recreation areas with activity Backpacking:Limited camping sites before Eureka Creek. Difficult to cross Eureka Creek with bridge gone and trail very difficult for hikers beyond Eureka Creek, trail impassable for stock.
