Sites are available on a first come first serve basis for campgrounds within the reservation system. Campers without reservations may need to move after second night if site becomes reserved.

The Lakeshore trail provides hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding opportunities around the lake. The southern portion of the trail drops below the high water mark in order to avoid crossing private land. Horseback riding is permitted on the northern portion of the Lakeshore trail only.
A portion of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) near Chimney Rock and Fowler Peak can be accessed from the Lakeshore trail. The Bald Mt. - PCT tie trailhead is located at the entrance to Horse Camp.
