Area Status: Closed
The Chalk Creek Canyon is one of the valley's most popular areas. Visitors can access the area by traveling on Highway 285 from either Buena Vista or Salida. From Buena Vista travel south on Highway 285 for approximately 7 miles then turn right on County Road 162. Chalk Lake campground is located 8 miles west.
Reservations: Visit www.Recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777. Sites 2,3,5,6,10-13, 15-18 are reservable.

||Max RV length 50 ft. Camping and campfires are restricted in the Chalk Creek Canyon to developed campgrounds only. Campers who are unable to find a campsite in one of the four developed campground may camp above the townsite of St. Elmo on County Road 267 or near the Hancock townsite, locate 5 mile south of CR 162 on Forest Road 295.

From Buena Vista, Colorado, take Highway 285 south for 7 miles to County Road 162. Turn west on County Road 162, traveling 8 miles to the Chalk Lake Campground.
This campground has one accessible toilet. No running water is available.
This is very popular campground and reservations are highly recommended during the summer months.
Park is limited to the parking pads provided at the individual campsites.
