Schafer Trail #1391

Schafer Trail #1391, previously the "Chaparral" Trail, is 3.5 miles long and is located in the Spanish Peaks Wilderness with views of White Peaks and Cuchara Valley. The trail is open no non-motorized/non-mechanized use only. 

The Spanish Peaks Wilderness was established in 2000 to preserve its quality, character, and integrity. This area is intended to be a place where the imprint of humans is substantially unnoticed; where natural processes are the primary influences, and human activity is limited to primitive recreation and minimum tools. Please follow Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics to ensure that this and future generations experience this special place in its natural condition.

General Information

Directions:

From La Veta head south on State Highway 12 to Cucharas Pass. Turn left onto County Road. #46 travel for 4 miles to Chaparral trailhead on left side of road. Trail goes for 3.5 miles and ends at the Wilderness border with private property.
