Green Mountain Campground

Green Mountain Campground is far enough from town that there is no corner store while being close enough that the drive to and from home is an enjoyable getaway. Located southwest of Denver at an elevation of 7,500 feet, Green Mountain Campground offers a wonderful opportunity for individuals or families to enjoy the great outdoors. South Fork Buffalo Creek runs through the campground and there are numerous nonmotorized, multi-use trails nearby. Tent camping only. Host located down the road at Buffalo Campground.

All dates are weather dependent. Dates of operation below are dates visitors may expect full service. The area also has an extended season when services such as water, trash or a host may not be available during the fall/winter/spring.

Fees: $22.00 fee per site for overnight tent camping. Two (2) vehicles per site are included in the camping fee. $10.00 for a third vehicle. $10.00 day use fee if not camping overnight. Fees are payable by cash, check or money order.

Restrictions: The following restrictions apply to this campground:
  • Maximum 8 persons per site, 2 tents and 2 vehicles or 1 recreation vehicle.
  • Dogs must be leashed at all times.
  • No discharge of firearms or fireworks.
  • Only licensed vehicles can operate inside campground.
  • Camping is NOT ALLOWED behind a LOCKED GATE.
Note:  Green Mountain Campground is open to TENTS ONLY.
Closest Towns: Buffalo Creek is 5 miles northeast, along Highway 126.

Denver/Morrison is approximately a 1.5 hour drive northeast of the campground via US Highway 285.

Passes:

The Interagency Senior Pass and the Interagency Access Pass qualifies for a 50% discount at concessionaire run campsites. The discount only applies to the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party.

General Information

Directions:

From U.S. Highway 285 turn south at Pine Junction on to Jefferson County Road 126 for 13.5 miles to Forest Service Road 550. Travel west for 5.5 miles. Stay left for another 2.5 miles. Green Mountain campground will be on the left.


Accessibility:

As Green Mountain Campground is TENTS ONLY, one must park and walk in to the campsite. There are a few bridges across the stream with steps involved.


General Notes:

Green Mountain Campground is a popular campground. Because it has been listed in recreation guides and books, people sometimes show up on Thursday for weekend camping. All sites are first come first served and must be occupied to be considered “saved”. Almost every weekend is full at this campground.


Parking:

As Green Mountain Campground is TENTS ONLY, one must park and walk in to the campsite. All equipment must be packed in to the campsite.
