Machin Basin Trail # 784

The Machin Basin Trail is 9.2 miles long. It begins at Forest Trail #789/Wheeler Geologic Area Boundary and ends at Gunnison NF Boundary. Trail is rough and can be hard to follow. Several rockslide areas should be traversed carefully. Due to the rocks, the trail is not recommended for horse travel. Machin Lake offers great fishing and the trail allows for numerous circuit routes all over the Wilderness. Excellent scenery, diverse wildlife & rugged terrain.

The trail is open for the following uses: Hiking, Horseback Riding, Fishing, Viewing Scenery, and Viewing Wildlife

This trail begins within the La Garita Wilderness. It may be accessd from the following trails: Middle Fork #783, Middle Fork Cutoff #888, Benito Creek #867, Twin Peaks #782, Halfmoon Creek #914 and La Garita Stock Driveway # 787.
