Miners Creek Trail #803
The Miner's Creek trail is 7 miles long. It begins at the end of Forest Road 507 and ends at Forest Trail 787.
Good fishing is possible in the upper 2/3 of the Miners Creek Drainage. Opportunities to see elk are possible in the early morning and late evenings. Good camping sites exist along all but the lower segments of this trail. The trail crosses Miners Creek several times in the first 2.0 mile segment. Foot crossings can be dangerous during early summer runoff. Scenery and solitude are available along this trail.
Excellent views of white chalk-like cliffs are present at the head of Miners Creek.
The trail starts at the end of FDR#507 (Miners Creek Road) and immediately crosses Miners Creek and parallels the creek in the narrow canyon bottom.
After crossing the creek several more times, the trail begins to climb out of the creek bottom and through some dense stands of aspen along the southwest facing slopes of Miners Creek. After climbing for about a mile, the trail will turn and cross Miners Creek Drainage. The trail will wander from the creek and traverse through some small open parks and scattered spruce/fir stands.
Shortly after returning to Miners Creek, the trail will parallel the creek through a very narrow gorge, pass through an old-growth spruce/fir stand and then enter a large open meadow near the headwaters of Miners Creek. The trail junction with FDT#787 (La Garita Stock Driveway) is in the southeast end of the open meadow. The junction is signed.
The trail is open for the following uses: Motorcycle Trail Riding, Mountain Biking, Foot and Horse travel.
