Babyfoot Lake Rim Trail #1126
This trail provides a great opportunity to see the diversity of wildflowers in the Illinois Valley area, and leads into Babyfoot Lake Botanical Area. The trail follows the ridge west of Babyfoot Lake and provides access to the Kalmiopsis Rim Trail #1124 (old mining road section) within the Kalmiopsis Wilderness.
The trail up to the rim is steep and rocky in places, but gets easier at the rim. There are stellar views looking down at Babyfoot Lake, and across the vast Kalmiopsis Wilderness area.
This trail is located in and near the Biscuit (2002) and Chetco Bar (2018) Fires. Visitors should take into consideration that travel and camping may be more difficult and require greater concern for safety, due to the substantially increased risk falling fire-killed snags.
Know weather conditions before you go, and be particularly aware when there are predicted high winds.

| Current Conditions: | Visitors to the Kalmiopsis Wilderness should be advised that trail conditions may vary, depending on the level of maintenance performed in the years after the Biscuit (2002), Chetco Bar (2017) and Klondike (2018) Fires. Due to the scales of these fires, and the rugged and remote conditions in the Kalmiopsis, trail work, while ongoing, has not been performed on all the trails within the fire perimeters. Visitors may find downed trees across the trails, dense vegetation where shrubs have grown in after the fire, and unmarked trail junctions in some places. Please check with the Gold Beach or Wild Rivers Ranger Districts before your visit for trail conditions. Additionally, you can visit the Siskiyou Mountain Club's page, a local group who performs much of the trail maintenance in wilderness areas. |

General Information
Directions:From Grants Pass, OR, travel south on US Highway 199 (Redwood Highway) towards Cave Junction, OR. From US Highway 199 (Redwood Highway), turn right (west) onto 8 Dollar Road (Forest Road 4201). Continue to Forest Road 140. Continue approximately 0.5 mile; Babyfoot Lake trailhead is on the right. Hike for approximately 0.25 mile to junction with Babyfoot Lake Trail #1124A.
