Buck Hall Recreation Area

This premier recreation area is situated on the site of the old Buck Hall plantation just six miles southeast of McClellanville. Its location on the Intracoastal Waterway provides the best access to Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, 65,000 acres of marsh, tidal creeks and beaches and Bulls Bay, the best area for shrimp baiting on the coast.

Operational Hours: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. except to campers and boat ramp users.
Reservations: Reservations may be made by calling (877) 444-6777 or logging onto www.recreation.gov. A reservation fee will apply.

Fees: All visitors must pay to use the facility. Please use the self-pay station for day use.
  • Camping: $28 per RV site per day, dump station available
  • Tent camping: $20 per day
  • Day-Use (non-campers): $7 per vehicle per day; $40 per calendar year (yearly parking pass available at the Francis Marion District Office)
  • Picnic Shelter: $25 for groups up to 50; $45 for groups of 51 to 100.

Restrictions: Stay is limited to 14 days. RV and tent campsites at Buck Hall are available by reservation only. Reservations may be made by calling (877) 444-6777 or logging on to www.recreation.gov. A reservation fee will be added.

Information Center: The public boat ramp at Buck Hall Recreation Area has reopened, effective March 21, 2023. Repairs to the asphalt in front of the ramp are complete. Please keep the area clean and dispose of all trash and waste responsibly. Check back on this website and our Facebook page frequently for the latest conditions.

General Information

Directions:

From Charleston, take US Highway 17 north to Buck Hall Landing Road (FS Road 242). Turn right to the recreation area. Buck Hall is about 30 miles north of Charleston.

  • a lighted parking area for 175 vehicles with trailers.
