The trail starts near a ridge top and travels downslope through timber and hardwood stands to the South Fork of the Smith River where it meets the South Kelsey Trail. Caution: horse travel on this trail may be difficult due to recent slides and steepness of the trail. It is advisable to walk the trail prior to riding horses. Trail maintenance was performed in 2011.

Trail access from the upper trailhead may be difficult at this time, however, you can access this trail from the South Kelsey National Recreation Trail.
Restrictions:
Note: Trailhead access is limited by gate closures during the wet season, generally mid-October through mid-June.
