Fir Top Campground is located on the west side of Jackson Meadow Reservoir. It is surrounded by pine and fir trees and is in a quiet, shaded location. Jackson Meadow Reservoir is a gorgeous high elevation lake with good fishing. Part of the Pacific Crest Trail cross on the east side of the reservoir. Snow pack determines when the campground opens.  The reservoir offers excellent opportunities for boating, canoeing, water skiing, swimming and fishing.  Anglers will find rainbow and brown trout.  A boat ramp and designated swim beach are located within the recreation area.  Utility hookups, showers, telephones and cell phone service are not available at this location.

A half-mile interpretive nature trail wanders through the adjacent Woodcamp Campground.  A portion of the Pacific Crest Trail meanders along the east side of the lake.  Hunting and biking are popular activities in the surrounding area.

Current Conditions: Fire restrictions in effect.  Wood and charcoal fires limited to designated campgrounds only.  Keep fires small and ensure they are fully extinguished before retiring for the evening or leaving the area.

$5 for extra vehicle                                                                         An additional $2 per day fee is charged for reservations during Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends.

Restrictions: All camping must be within designated campsites in Jackson Meadow Recreation Area.  Bears frequent the area; all food must be kept in approved containers.  Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed.
Closest Towns: A camp store is within walking distance of the campground.  A variety of camping and fishing supplies, ice, groceries and souvenirs are available there.  The next closest services are in Sierraville, 11 miles north from Hwy 89 or Truckee, 17 miles south from Hwy 89.

Directions:

From Bowman Lake: Continue on Bowman Lake Road until you reach the south shore of Jackson Meadow Reservoir (about 5 miles on a rough road). Take the right fork to Fir Top Campground.

From Truckee: Drive 17 miles north on Hwy 89. Turn left at Little Truckee Summit on Forest Road 7. Continue 16 miles west to Jackson Meadow Reservoir. Campground is on the west shore of the reservoir.

From Sierraville: Drive 11 miles south on Hwy 89. Turn right at Little Truckee Summit on Forest Road 7. Continue 16 miles west to Jackson Meadow Reservoir. Campground is on the west shore of the reservoir.

Campground Camping

Fir Top has 12 single-fimily campsites, each equipped with picnic table and campfire ring.  Flush toilets and drinking water are provided.  Elevation: 6100 feet.

Activities and amenities offered include beach access, boat ramp, boating, firewood vendor, fishing, camp host, and swimming.
