Cottonwood Creek Campground

The campground sits along Cottonwood Creek, in a stand of Jeffrey pine and red and white fir trees. The forest provides shade and privacy between sites, but noise from the highway can be heard within the campground. Cottonwood Creek Campground offers several single-family campsites, each equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring, and trash collection is provided.

Restrictions: No day use parking. Camping outside designated campground is prohibited in this area. Off-road vehicle use is prohibited within the campground.  Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal files may not be allowed.  Bears frequent the area; all food must be stored in approved containers.
Closest Towns: Sierraville is 4 1/2 miles north on Hwy 89 and the closest source of supplies.

Directions:

From Sierraville: Travel approximately five miles south on Highway 89, the campground will be on the left side of the highway.

From Truckee: Travel north on Interstate 80 to Highway 89 approximately 20 miles.

A small number of rainbow trout inhabit limited reaches of this creek. There is a low seasonal flow of water by late summer.  Anglers that follow the fisherman's trail may find some nice spots to try their luck off the beaten path.

The Cottonwood Creek Botanical Trail is a 1/2 mile trail that identifies common trees and plants identified using a brochure and the numbered trail markers.   This is an easy, family friendly trail that everyone can enjoy.  Additional brochures for this trail are available from the Sierraville Ranger District.
