General Information
Directions: This trail is located near the central portion of Admiralty Island. Accessed by float plane from Juneau to either lake. One way flight time is 40 minutes. Disitn Lake is on the cross island canoe route. This trail can also be accessed by a skiff located at Sportsmen cabin on Distin Lake.Activities

Admiralty Island's varied pristine ecotypes provide extraordinary plant viewing along the Distin to Thayer Lake trail. Temperate rainforest and muskeg meadows are encountered throughout the journey.Species | Admiralty Island comprises one of the greatest remaining blocks of productive old-growth temperate rain forest in the world. Alpine, tidal marsh and muskeg meadows are some of the other plant communities. The temperate rainforest primarily consist of western and mountain hemlock, Sitka spruce, alder, yellow cedar and shore pine. Forest understory consists primarily of blueberry, huckleberry, salmonberry, thimbleberry, fern, mosses ,devils club, false azalea and dwarf dogwood. |
