General Information
Directions: In the center of Admiralty Island, south end of Hasselborg Lake, near the lake outlet. Access by floatplane or canoe/portage. This cabin is in a designated Wilderness area, and access by helicopter is illegal. One-way flight time from Juneau is approximately 35 minutes. By canoe and portage, it is approximately 6.5 miles to Mole Harbor. Suggested USGS topo maps: Sitka C-1, C-2.Activities
Dispersed Camping
Located on the southwest end of the lake and just north of the Hasselborg Creek cabin and also part of the cross Admiralty canoe route, this three sided shelter offers a camping spot with surroundings that support a few additional tent sites. Extremely buggy from June through AugustLake and Pond Fishing

Viewing Plants
Admiralty Island's varied pristine ecotypes provide extraordinary plant viewing along the Hasselborg Creek and Hasselborg to Guerin Lake trails. Temperate rainforest is encountered throughout the journey.Species | Admiralty Island comprises one of the greatest remaining blocks of productive old-growth temperate rain forest in the world. Alpine, tidal marsh and muskeg meadows are some of the other plant communities. The temperate rainforest primarily consist of western and mountain hemlock, Sitka spruce, alder, yellow cedar and shore pine. Forest understory consists primarily of blueberry, huckleberry, salmonberry, thimbleberry, fern, mosses ,devils club, false azalea, mushrooms and dwarf dogwood. |
