General Information

Directions: Located Piper Island, a small island in Fish Bay on Baranof Island about 30 miles north of Sitka; 25 minute float plane ride or 1.5 hour boat ride from Sitka.

Cabin Rentals

Cabin nestled just inside forest fringe above a large sandy beach. Cabin built in 1994 by volunteers from U.S. Coast Guard and group of local Sitka residents. Main level has on one single-wide bunk over a double-wide bunk; open sleeping loft has no bunks. Suggested USGS topo map: Sitka B-5 What to bring: #1 diesel fuel (10 gallons for a 3-day stay), sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags. Rubber boots and raingear are recommended. No water source on this small island. Closest water source is a Baranof Island stream about ½ mile (.8km) from cabin. This requires having a your own boat. Treat all water before using. Better idea is to bring your own water. Mooring buoy available on first-come, first-served basis for boat anchorage. Cabin reservation does not include exclusive use of buoy. Cabin is NOT maintained during the winter. Firewood for the cabin stove may be in short supply or temporarily out at any time of year. Firewood not provided for outdoor campfires, gather only dead and down wood. Accessible year round, weather permitting. Occasionally poor weather can result in extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared for this. Pack out all gear, garbage and food that you bring to cabin. Reservations may be made on the day of arrival or up to 180 days in advance. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1 - September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party October 1 - April 30.

Salt Water Fishing

Saltwater fishing possible by boat for a variety of saltwater species in season i.e. salmon, halibut, crabbing. Refer to http://www.adfg.alaska.gov species, permits and regulations.

Big Game Hunting
