Middle Ridge Cabin

The Middle Ridge Cabin is a 16' x 20' log cabin that meets all ADA accessibility requirements. Sleeping accommodations include 1 double bunk, 1 single bunk, plus a full loft. Amenities include a wooden table, benches and counter with a woodstove for heat. Wood and splitting maul are provided. Bring bedding, cook stove, lanterns and utensils. An accessible picnic table and fire ring are located outside the cabin, overlooking a small lake. A 175' gravel path (not ADA accessible) leads to a wooden dock at the lake. A skiff with oars is available for use. Personal flotation devices are not provided.

General Information

Directions: Access is by road from Wrangell. Drive south 10.5 miles on Zimovia Highway and turn left on Pats Creek Road (6259). Continue 2.8 miles on road 6259 to road 50054. Turn right and follow 50054 about 1 mile to road 50060. Turn right and follow 50060 approximately 3.5 miles to the cabin. Roads 50054 and 50060 are very rough and steep, with some grades exceeding 15% in places with sharp switchbacks and few turnouts. RV's, vehicles towing trailers, and low clearance vehicles are not recommended.

Reservation Info This site can be reserved by calling Toll Free 1-877-444-6777 (International 518-885-3639 or TDD 877-833-6777) or on-line at www.recreation.gov. Cabin reservations run from noon to noon (check in-check out time).

Lake and Pond Fishing

Cutthroat trout in Newt Lake. Refer to Alaska Department of Fish and Game for regulations. 

Viewing Scenery

Drive to cabin provides scenic vantages of Wrangell and surrounding islands.

OHV Road Riding

Opportunities exist for OHV riding on the road system. Check Forest Motorized Vehicle Use Maps for current information about roads/trails open to OHV use.

Boating - Non-Motorized

A 14' skiff with oars is provided. Personal flotation devices not provided.

Snowmobiling

Abundant opportunity for snowmobiling on road system and surrounding area. Area is open to both motorized and non-motorized winter use.
