Workman Creek

Area Status: Open

Below the waterfall, Workman Creek is stocked twice a year during the early part of summer. Above the falls, the creek supports a small naturally-reproducing population of rainbow trout. Most fishing activity takes place between State Hwy. 288 and Workman Creek Falls.

Restrictions:	Some of these walk-in fishing areas are in Wilderness Areas and are governed by special rules. Before you venture into the Wilderness areas, obtain Recreation Opportunity Guides (ROGs) for the specific wilderness you choose to visit. Forest Roads (FR) 133, 405, 486, 487, and 609 are primitive roads and should not be attempted without a high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicle. As a consideration to others: PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT!! The speckled dace, desert sucker, Sonora sucker, long-fin dace, and roundtail chub (also known as the “Verde Trout”) are native fish currently found in these streams. They are important members of these aquatic ecosystems.

Directions:

From the junction of U.S. Highway 60 & State Hwy. 188 (between Globe and Miami) drive northwest on Hwy. 88 for approximately 15 miles to the junction of State Hwy. 288. Bear right and follow Hwy. 288 for approximately 25 ½ miles to the Workman Creek Bridge. If desired, you may also drive along the creek on FR 487 that turns right (east) just past the bridge. It is approximately 3 miles to Workman Creek Falls (a high-clearance vehicle is needed). View and download a map.
