Raccoon Bluff Day Use Area & Seasonal Camping

This lush area is outstanding for bird watching. Adjacent to the lower portion of the Salt River, a stand of mesquite provides welcome shade. Raccoon Bluff is a popular river-access point (RAP) for tubers floating the Lower Salt River. It’s close proximity to the main cities allows for an easy escape and fun day-trip.

Restrictions:
  • Stay limit 1 day.
  • No trailers, no motor boats.
  • No drinking water available.
  • This area is heavily used in the summer months.
  • Pets must be on a leash.
  • Glass containers are not allowed in the Lower Salt River area.
  • To avoid injury wear shoes when wading in the river.
Caution: fallen trees and other materials in the river can trap swimmers and floaters, Beware: alcohol, sun, and water are a deadly combination.

General Information

Directions:

This site is 17 miles northeast of Mesa. From Mesa, travel 7 miles east on Superstition Freeway (US 60), to Power Road/Bush Highway/Forest Road (FR) 204 and turn north. Follow Bush Highway for 12 miles and turn north (left) on FR 204E and follow it one mile to the site. The entire route is paved.
