Twin Lakes Trail #1500 travels through the Twin Lakes Unroaded Recreation Area, a place of serenity and great beauty that’s perfect for escaping from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Halfway through this trail you’ll find Big Twin Lake, a 14-acre lake with depth of 48 feet, and Little Twin Lake, a 6-acre lake with a depth of 30 feet. Twin Lakes Loop Trail #1521 connects the lakes. Points of interest include alpine meadows abundant with wildflowers, rock overhangs, old-growth forest, shelters, scenic views of Mt. Thielsen and Mt. Bailey, a cliff area overlooking the lakes, and grotto caves at the base of the cliffs.

Activities include camping, picnicking, hiking, swimming, fishing for brook trout, boating (canoe or inflatable craft) and photography.

Parking:
  • The west trailhead parking area does not provide a favorable opportunity for turning around vehicles with trailers.
  • The east trailhead parking area does provide a favorable opportunity for turning around vehicles with trailers.

Directions:

West trailhead:

From Roseburg, OR, take OR-138 east / northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard 17 miles to the town of Glide, OR, where you will turn right (south) onto County Road 17 (Little River Road). Follow County Road 17 for 20 miles where it becomes Forest Road 27 with a gravel surface. Stay on Forest Road 27 to Forest Road 2715, about 3 miles east of Lake in the Woods Campground. Turn left on Forest Road 2715 and follow it for 8 miles to its junction with Forest Road 2715-530, which is a mile past the trailhead to the Snowbird Shelter. Turn left and go to the end of the road and trailhead Twin Lakes Trail #1500.

East Trailhead:

From Roseburg, OR, take OR-138 east / northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard east 50 miles to Marsters Bridge on the right (south). Cross the bridge and take the right on Forest Road 4770. Follow Forest Road 4770 for 10 miles to the trailhead for the Twin Lakes Trail #1500. It is a 1.25 mile hike to Twin Lakes Shelter.
