This short trail leads to Grotto Falls, where water splits and plunges 100 feet over a deeply recessed cliff, creating a double curtain of falling water that visitors can pass behind.
The falls are located in a well-shaded river gorge that sees sunlight for only a few hours in the middle of the day. The first part of the trail passes through old-growth forest and lush understory where Oregon grape is abundant; the trail then arrives at the waterfall and passes behind the falls and through the deep, natural cavern. The water flow is at its highest in the spring after snowmelt.
Coolwater Campground and White Creek Campground are nearby places to camp, while Emile Shelter Big Tree Trail #1549 and Emile Big Tree Trail #1540 are short, nearby hiking trails.
