The trail meanders through older Douglas fir and Western Hemlock, as you gain elevation it wanders through older Noble fir. There are abundant wildflowers along rocky openings by the upper portions of trail in early summer along with views of the Cascades.
From Detroit Ranger Station travel east on Hwy 22 for approximately 8 miles to forest road 2233 (McCoy Creek road), turn left onto 2233, travel about 7 miles to the trailhead on the right.
Triangulation Trail intersects Triangulation Peak Trail, #3374, which offers a vista of the Cascade mountain range. The surrounding network of trails creates potential shuttle hikes, such as the following options. Triangulation Trail intersects Cheat Creek Trail, #3441. Hiking southwest along #3441 will provide a means for a shuttle. On Triangulation trail, Crag Trail intersects Triangulation heading north, creating another option for a shuttle. Whitewater trail, #3429, intersects Triangulation and provides a means for a shuttle.
