Windy Pass Trail #3643

This trail takes you  deep into the Oregon Cascades Recreation Area (area is unavailable). The trail climbs gradually through a forest of Pacific silver fir and mountain hemlock. The first two miles of the pass go past several small mountain lakes.

The Start O' Willamette Trail heads south back to Timpanogas Lake at about the 2 miles. The trail then levels out before climbing toward the ridgeline between Cowhorn and Sawtooth Mountains. Several stretches of the trail offer views of the Middle Fork Valley and Sawtooth Mountain. If you look carefully, you can get a glimpse of Amos Lake and Andy Lake.

Almost 5 miles beyond the junction of the Start O'Willamette Trail junction, is the junction for the Indigo Extension Trail. Proceed another 1.5 miles to the junction with the Sawtooth Trail. The trail continues westerly another 2 miles to a spur road off of Forest Road 770 on the Umpqua National Forest. This last 2 miles of trail is not maintained.
