Taos, N.M. October 5, 2015—The completion of the San Antonio Bridge replacement project located on Forest Road 87 on the Tres Piedras District has been delayed. The construction began on August 31 and was supposed to last 30 days. There were several reasons for the delays. Additional unexpected concrete footings encountered during excavation contributed to some delays. Also, the contractor was delayed in fabricating the concrete bridge components. The revised completion date is October 28. The arched, concrete bridge will replace large culverts that prevent fish passage during low flows that have created downstream fish habitat degradation. The concrete structure will allow the Rio San Antonio to flow naturally and restore fish habitat. We realize the delay impacts the hunting season, camping, and other recreation. We appreciate the public’s patience during the construction and long-term improvements.
