Nestled in the forested splendor of the rugged Ouachita Mountains, this recreation area is located in the southern portion of the national forest. Visitors are invited to hike the nature trail or experience the excitement of a canoe trip on the Little Missouri River.

At a Glance

Current Conditions: The Albert Pike Recreation area and the nearby Winding Stair trailhead remain closed as Forest Service personnel work to repair damage to the areas after a storm on Memorial Day.  A water main  break in the Albert Pike Recreation area and loss of electricity  has made the restroom facility at the day use area unusable. Downed trees have made the Winding Stair trailhead inaccessible and dangerous for hikers. An update on the status of Albert Pike Recreation area and Winding Stair will be posted as new information becomes available. When the recreation area is open, Loops A & B are open seasonally for day use only. No overnight camping. Call the Womble Office for additional information 870-867-2101
Operational Hours: Open for day use 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  No overnight camping or parking.  No fee.

General Information

Directions:

From Hot Springs take Highway 70 west 36 miles through Glenwood to Salem. Turn west on Highway 84 and go 13 miles to Langley. At Langley turn north on Highway 369 and go 6 miles to the recreation area.
