The Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area is located on the shores of the 131-acre Tipsaw Lake. It offers camping, picnicking, boat launching, swimming, hiking, biking, and some interpretive programs.

At a Glance

Operational Hours: Only the boat launch and trail heads are open after October 17. The campgrounds and picnic area is closed for the winter months.
Fees $5/vehicle/day use fee for the area or $35 annual permit for  the Indian-Celina Lake Recreation Area. The fee is only required 4/15 - 10/31. Firewood is available in 1 cu. ft bundles for $5 during the summer months.
Permit Info: A permit is required for riding mountain bikes on the Tipsaw Trail which is within the recreation area. All visitors to the recreation area must purchase a daily use permit during the recreation season (April 15-October 15). Instructions are provided if the gatehouse is not staffed. The permit is $5/vehicle. Annual passes for day use are $35 (America the Beautiful Access and Senior discounts are honored) and the pass is good for Tipsaw Lake, Hardin Ridge, and Indian-Celina Recreation Areas.

Restrictions: A complete list of US Forest Service rules and regulations are posted on bulletin boards in the campground. Campsites must be occupied the first night and every night thereafter.
Water: Drinking water is available.
Restroom: Vault and Flush Toilet available

General Information


Located 6 miles south of Interstate 64 off State Highway 37. Turn at the large entrance sign. The recreation area is actually a couple miles down this road. Continue down the road to the gatehouse and the recreation complex. GPS Coordinates: Lat - 38o 11' 56.664"N, Long - 86o 35' 53.951"W
