Island Unit Trail System Additions Project
(EA)
In 2001, the Forest Service completed a "Roads Analysis" for the Island Unit. This analysis identified the minimum road system needs for the area consistent with the Flathead National Forest Plan. A "Roads Analysis," a predecessor to the "Travel Analysis" process, was codified into Federal regulations in January 2009. We are now seeking to update the existing roads analysis for the Island Unit to be consistent with the intent of the new travel analysis regulations and to develop an Island Unit Travel Analysis for this area. This analysis will build on the existing roads analysis. The primary feature of the travel analysis process that differs from the existing roads analysis is that trail opportunities are incorporated.

Spotted Bear River Project
(EA)
Project is designed to restore forest structures and vegetation composition to a more natural, historical condition that would be more resilient and resistant to potential future disturbances (including wildfire, disease, or insect infestations). It also would maintain or improve timber productivity on suitable lands and provide a variety of wood products to the local economy. This would include salvaging trees that are dead or at imminent risk of mortality due to insects or diseases. In addition, it would maintain and improve recreational values and the safety of our visitors at developed recreation sites and other areas within the Wild and Scenic River corridor and extend season of motorized access to Middle Big Bill and Silvertip Trailheads. Finally, it would also reduce vehicle/trailer conflicts and safety impacts at the Silvertip Trailhead.
